We have been the second owner for Matilda as she was originally owned by my late father for the last 17 years who bought her off the yard manager at Cornish Crabbers in Rock, North Cornwall. We have had great fun sailing out on her in the Carrick Roads area (Mylor/St Mawes/Falmouth) (2001-2015) and have enjoyed sailing her at Carsington Sailing Club in Derbyshire since 2016,

The boat is located at Carsington Sailing Club, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE6 1SU

45 1981

Bracken 2 is a safe and reliable early boat, well built by Cornish Crabbers in 1981. Her shallow draft makes her ideal for sailing in estuaries and rivers but  she is also capable of coastal voyages. Her trailability allows access to different waters.

Spars  The mast, boom and gaff have been well maintained on an annual basis. The bowsprit was replaced with a new item from Cornish Crabbers in 2016. The bow eye was replaced and reset in 2015.

Rigging  The jib halyard has a Holt Allen reefing spar. The reefing line and jib sheet have to be kept under tension in use to prevent tangles.

Running rigging  All in good condition, the peak halyard was replaced in 2017.

Sails  These were replaced with a new tan colour jib and main by Sanders of Lymington, in 2014, and have since seen little use with no racing stress. The jib has an anti UV luff strip. There is a matching sail cover which was provided in 2013 and looks like new.

Hull  The mustard yellow hull has one extra porthole on each side  ( an optional extra at time of order ).               The rubbing strakes are intact with minor impact damage only.

The keel box was damaged on her mooring in a storm in 2016 and has been professionally repaired by Marinesport of Mylor, Cornwall.

The gel coat is sound and minor scuffs and faded areas were polished out in 2017. At the same time the old antifouling was removed back to the gel coat and fresh layers applied. The boat has not been in the sea since for anything other than a short time.

Centre Plate  This was professionally replaced with a new stainless steel item in 2017, complete with a new pivot bolt and lifting cable(Dynema) The sheave block and jockey wheel were also replaced at the same time.

A stainless steel boarding ladder was fitted to the transom in 2013.

Cockpit and Interior  There is a canvas cockpit cover which is somewhat mould stained but water tight. All fittings are present on the hull surface for assembling the full cockpit tent which is sound save for a small area of rodent damage. This has been repaired with an adhesive patch.

The interior woodwork is sound and the floor boards have been replaced and varnished.

The resin ballast has been professionally checked and found to be sound. No rust expansion of the encapsulated iron work was seen.

The timber side panelling on the interior face of the hull is in good condition throughout. New bunk cushions are currently on order from Cornish Crabbers.

Trailer  This is a single axle, break back ,braked trailer which was extensively renovated 2016 / 2017. It had 3 new wheels and tyres in 2014, and these show little sign of wear. A new hitch, brakes and brake lines were professionally fitted. The trailer has not been immersed since these repairs. If Bracken is to be trailer-sailed, the hubs should be washed thoroughly after immersion.

Accessories  There is an (unused ) Porta Potti, a single burner stove and a bucket wash basin with pumped container to supply.

There are masthead navigation lights, cabin interior light and a reading light.

Bracken has a NASA Marine echo sounder and a log which needs to be connected to a GPS device to work. The battery is in the cabin and provides power for the above and an extractor fan in the cabin.

The battery is kept topped up by a solar panel on deck.

Engine  This is a Yamaha 6hp ,4 stroke petrol version, which has been regularly serviced. It was last serviced by Robin Curnow of Penryn in December 2016, and has been little used since. ( Malpas to Mylor and back three times ) It always starts easily and runs smoothly.

All fuel tanks and connections are present.

On Deck  All necessary mooring warps, fenders and an anchor and chain. There is a boat hook, a whisker pole, emergency oars and paddles.

There is a slot -in compass in the cockpit.
