Devon
Welcome to Devon!
Here in Devon we have some of the most beautiful clear water cruising in the South West with many creeks and areas of sheltered open water all waiting to be explored. If you seek adventurous sea sailing or just want to potter, all options are within easy reach.
I am lucky to have Salcombe as my home port , but as the Region extends from the Exe including Dartmouth , Salcombe , Newton Ferrers and Plymouth - geographicaly it is a long area of coastline with many self contained sailing areas.
Next year will be my first season as Hon Sec of the Devon Area and my second season of Shrimper ownership . I am still learning the ropes but have had a lot of fun and lots of learning curves . I am absoulutely hooked on the pretty well mannered little yacht that is so forgiving for the slightly creaky grandparent and extremely safe for a gaggle of grandchildren to learn to sail!
As regards future fixtures, we will be organising a get together sometime in the New Year to see what everyone would like to do next season . As soon as dates and venues have been finalised
I will post them on this page and forward to everyone in our region who has an email address.
We will try to co-ordinate the different areas within our region.
In the meantime if you would like to join us for local Shrimper rallies or assist with arranging events in your area, please contact me.

NEWS ITEM & Date for your diary:-
I have arranged a lunch get together for the Devon Area of the SOA at the \Salcombe Yacht Club on Saturday 27th February , 12.30 for 1300 hours .I do hope you can make it .
Lunch costs £10 per head and we will pay on the day . It will be a carvery and will include pudding and a glass of wine!
If you require a vegetarian lunch please let me know .
I need to know the number of people who are going to attend by the 17th February so if you could email me at wbain@hatchgate.eclipse.co.uk that would be great .
The yacht club can cater for as many people as we can muster so do bring wives , husbands , partners , interested friends etc ! We will be discussing rallies , racing , picnics and all things to do with Shrimpers .
The best place to park in Salcombe is in Gould Rd and it is about 5 minutes walk through the town to the club which is situated along Cliff Rd , it is on the right – a large Victorian red brick building set back and facing the sea opposite the memorial gardens . There is no parking as such outside .
Trevor our National Hon Sec will hopefully be joining us , and if you can make it I look forward to meeting you .
I would be grateful if you have an email address if you could give it to me or if not please ring me on 01276 858858.
