Devon
Welcome to Devon!
Here in Devon we have some of the most beautiful clear water cruising in the South West with many creeks and areas of sheltered open water all waiting to be explored. If you seek adventurous sea sailing or just want to potter, all options are within easy reach.
I am lucky to have Salcombe as my home port , but as the Region extends from the Exe including Dartmouth , Salcombe , Newton Ferrers and Plymouth - geographicaly it is a long area of coastline with many self contained sailing areas.
Next year will be my first season as Hon Sec of the Devon Area and my second season of Shrimper ownership . I am still learning the ropes but have had a lot of fun and lots of learning curves . I am absoulutely hooked on the pretty well mannered little yacht that is so forgiving for the slightly creaky grandparent and extremely safe for a gaggle of grandchildren to learn to sail!
As regards future fixtures, we will be organising a get together sometime in the New Year to see what everyone would like to do next season . As soon as dates and venues have been finalised
I will post them on this page and forward to everyone in our region who has an email address.
We will try to co-ordinate the different areas within our region.
In the meantime if you would like to join us for local Shrimper rallies or assist with arranging events in your area, please contact me.

Rally to Newton Ferrers 26th and 27th June
We plan to leave Salcombe on Saturday afternoonand head westwards for Newton Ferrers after half ebb , so with the current in our favour we will have a rising tide on entering the Yealm.
There will be enough water to raft up outside the Dolphin Pub for supper . After we can motor to deep water to pick up a mooring or anchor overnight .
Sunday morning will be for pottering and socialising and we plan to catch the flood tide back to Salcombe mid afternoon to arrive early evening .
In reasonable conditiond the passage should take about 3 hours .
Those sailing from Plymouth will have to adjust timing and it will be a shorter sail .
Anyone planning on sailing from Dartmouth may like to stop over on the friday night before .
In June there are always swinging and pontoon moorings available . If you wish to pre book a mooring , give the Harbour Office a call beforehand .
There is a harbour launch to ferry you to the town if neccessary .
I shall be in Salcombe a few days before the rally so if you need to talk to me my number is 01548843849 or 07976558005.
I will email all those taking part before 20th June with a time we expect to leave Salcombe .
Please could you email me by the weekend before the rally if you would like to join us -
as I will need to know numbers for supper and who is coming along.
Please note that I do not have an email connection in Salcombe so any communications to me after the 20th June need to be by phone!
This should be a fun first rally , so do come along it would be great to meet you . If the weather is unsailable I will make alternative arrangements !
