logs & articles

For those winter evenings when thoughts turn to "where shall we go next year" we can offer the answer .. logs and articles. We have a few but need more. Many thanks to those that have written in the past, especially Gille and Robin Whittle, but we all have a story within us. Please pass on any article which will be of interest to Shrimper owners and I will get it on here.

england

From England we have a circular route around the South via the Kennet and Avon Canal, the Bristol Channel and then the south coast of England. Then there is a trip from Falmouth to Mousehole and the report of Poole hosting a Shrimper event in 2003.

One of the best areas for Shrimper sailing in Europe is Strangford Lough but I have yet to write about it. Another great and on my list for future years is the Shannon which you can read about here. Also some tips in sailing around Cork.

scotland

The Western Isles - the seas of seals, whales, porpoises and birds. Great when the weather is set fine and exhilirating at all times. One of those places which a Shrimperer must visit at least once.

wales

Little known about the north or middle but the south west coast has Pembrokeshire. Plenty of space, great sea sailing to bird sanctuary islands and estuaries and rivers to crawl up when it blows outside. Read about the 2004 Shrimper week from the perspective of a (then) new member.

sweden

A Whittle family epic in 2002 gives many clues of how a month can be sufficient time to discover somewhere very different from the Hamble.

norway

Clive Woodman bought a Shrimper, Freya, in 2002; sailed her for four weeks up the west coast of Scotland that year, from Plymouth to Oslo in 2003 and down the length of Norway in 2004 as part of his Nordic Odyssey Expedition.

netherlands

The Dutch are great sailors and love their old boats. It is not surprising that many own Shrimpers and there is a Dutch Shrimper site. The Shrimper week has been held in the Netherlands. This is an account of a trip in 2002.
