Our first Shrimper week really starts in March 2003 when Jackie and I bought “Winkle”, Shrimper 144, from Bob Evans in Southsea. We spent that glorious summer getting to know her funny little ways, happily sailing around Poole harbour with an occasional adventure to Studland. Shrimper Week in Poole came and went, but with only a few weeks Shrimper experience under our belt it was not for us. Then I spotted Roy Harper’s advance notice for Shrimper Week 2004. Two weeks sailing in Pembrokeshire, the first within Milford Haven, the second a flotilla coastal cruise to Newport, Pembrokeshire, my childhood home. This was different and I vowed to be there if at all possible. There were, however, a few small obstacles to be overcome.
