A place of creeks and shallow waters - perfect for the Shrimper.
deben week 6th - 13th August 2005
On a bright sunny day in January twenty odd of us gathered for lunch at the Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club with a fine view of the Spring ebb doing its best to shift the channel buoy. We were pleased to see honorary East Coasters Trevor Thomas, Ian Fisher and June and
Bryn Bird as well as the Nat Hon Sec. The event coincided with Robin Whittles' birthday and a cake suitably beautifully decorated with a Shrimper motif by Gillie was produced and consumed with gusto!
There was some discussion about plans for National Shrimper Week in Holland and three or four boats will be going with others going to the Trafalgar 200 festivities in the Solent. One or two are even going to try and combine both. We are hoping to arrange a cruise in company over the week-end of 14/15th May and another sometime in September with the main project this year being an hydrographic survey of Horsey Island in the Walton Backwaters. This idea is Robins' alone but any volunteers for an extended stay in the mud will be more than welcome!
The main event is the Deben Week Regatta which is being held between the 6th and 13th of August and as usual we would like to encourage others to join our small fleet for some exciting racing. If you would like to take part please contact Robin Whittle or John Clogg to ensure you receive an entry form. Moorings on the river are readily available if you let us know in good time.
